THE DA VINCI CODE By Dan Brown ISBN: 9780739339794

The Da Vinci Code is as eye-opening as it is page-turning.” This book is ideal for history buffs and a must-read for Tarot card readers. It will remind you of two other contemporary authors: First, Michael Crichton, who writes exciting and easy-to-understand computer hi-tech novels. And second, the late Tarot scholar, author and artist - Brian Williams, who artistically wrote about the imagery, symbolism, myth, and allegory of the Tarot cards.

This fast-paced story begins in Paris, France. We are immediately given a new view of the world of code writing and symbology when the story opens with a chase inside the famous Parisian art gallery, The Louvre. It is a tale built on secrets and rituals; and finally, stacked on top of puzzles and riddles. As with Tarot cards, which are mentioned in this book; code and symbolism is its main focus. Within it there are many “links” or “truths” that will take you swiftly to some incredible and surprising discoveries.

Brown’s story tells us that truths and secrets can be like “Easter eggs” waiting for discovery. He hints that we can find them within fiction. Throughout the ages, truths and secrets have been hiding in all sorts of unique places in all sorts of unique ways. He wants us to understand that truth is not always the same thing or just one thing; but is broad and large, expansive and infinite – a Universe. Brian Williams said, “And the old gods keep returning in new dress.” And Michael Crichton reminds, “A symbol may be so strong and simple as to be undecipherable.”

“The Da Vinci Code” opens a door for us to look a little closer with more imagination, at what’s going on now in our society and think about future implications. The main underlying theme of this story is that symbols and symbolism can be a magical, heavenly-inspired language of wisdom, secrets and mysteries that is from that source called many things.

We are reassured that most symbols are very resilient. The author exemplifies that the pentacle was altered by the early Roman Catholic Church. As part of the Vatican’s campaign to eradicate the pagan religions and convert the masses to Christianity, the church launched a smear campaign against the pagan gods and goddesses, recasting their divine symbols as evil. The church’s demonization of the goddess is well documented.

Dan Brown’s thought-provoking story line reveals to us that a newly emerging power could take over various existing symbols and try to degrade them over time in an attempt to erase their meaning. “The Da Vinci Code” is not only a lot of fun to read, but for those like myself who take seriously the messages and symbols flying at us from all directions, it is a must read. It might leave you wondering, can or have symbols become reinvented?
